ABOUT FREEMAN
Freeman is a thriving small rural town in southeastern South Dakota within an hour’Äôs drive of three of the state’Äôs largest cities: Sioux Falls, Mitchell and Yankton. A strong sense of its heritage, a stable retail and manufacturing sector, thriving education and health care systems, a strong attention to parks and recreation and an influx of young families ’Äî many of them with roots in the community ’Äî separate Freeman from many small towns.

While Freeman’Äôs population is 1,306 (2010 census), the larger agricultural community that calls Freeman home increases its population and trade area to more than 3,000. Agriculture remains Freeman’Äôs biggest industry, just as it was when Freeman was founded in 1879. Traditional farms in all directions and strong implement dealerships are complimented by organic and alternative agriculture that continues to develop.

Freeman is a proud town where people of all ages live, work, play and worship; where heritage and health care, education and opportunity, athletics and entrepreneurship aren’Äôt simply assets, but also a way of life.
